Weekly Web Wonders

Download and install the Google Toolbar for your browser. It has several great searching tools as well as a spell checker. You can use it to check the spelling in any online forms before you submit them.

Use SurveyMonkey to collect information from students, parents, or colleagues. The accounts are free and can be created easily. Students could design their own surveys to collect data from anyone with Internet access.

Google Earth Hacks is a site that collects “extras” that can be used with Google Earth. You can download 3D models of famous structures, 3D models of cities, current event locations such as earthquakes, overlays such as population density, and current weather information. Lots to explore! Haven’t used Google Earth? Why not?

Have you heard of Podcasting? At the basic level, podcasting is downloading audio files to listen to at your convenience on a computer or audio device such as an iPod (doesn’t have to be an iPod). David Warlick has developed the Education Podcast Network to categorize podcasts that might be relevant to educators. Check it out!

Happy Halloween!
